This is a part of an 8 track orchestral suite called "The Seasons", which I composed when I was 16. The album is designed to loop and is highly atmospheric. Each song either focuses on one season at a time, or on the transition phases between them. This particular track focuses of the shift between autumn and winter.
The transition between Autumn and Winter is associated in many cultures with death. This is the time of year when all things are finished. Things will only get darker before the solstice, which is associated with rebirth. There is a beauty unlike any other to this time of year. The trees are bare, the forest, quiet; all else is hushed beneath dried leaves and chilly loam. It is a time for endings- for the clearing of space in order to make room for that which is new.
