This piece is a birthday gift for my beloved friend, Sarah! It was, in fact, published on her birthday, so happy birthday, Sarah, if you're reading this! I love you!! I can see in my mind how your head is likely going to sway as you listen to this.
So, this is officially my first Jeremy Soule remix- well, aside from that Skyrim chiptune I did a few years back- and I have to say that I'm extremely pleased with it! Mr. Soule is easily one of the greatest composers of all time, and I would argue that, in terms of pure skill as well as raw creativity, he's among the top ten video game composers of all time; in actuality, no less inspired is he than Uematsu, Kondo, Wise, Kirkhope or Mitsuda.
I had virtually nothing to work with, making this. All I had was very, very simplistic piano sheet music as a reference. I had to do the rest by ear, as was the case with the "From Past to Present" chiptune. I often enjoy that task, as it's an engaging challenge converting an orchestra's worth of sound into a custom midi, adding variations and embellishments as I go and giving careful consideration to the placement of each note.
Wings of Kynareth is my favorite song from Oblivion, and one of my favorite Soule tracks. I'm not sure what my very favorite would be, however, as he scored so many amazing games. It might actually be "Over the Shiverpeaks" or "Arrival in Silverwood" from Guild Wars. "Ancient Stones", "Secunda" and "From Past to Present" in Skyrim also come close. From Oblivion, this track is my %1, but after that, it's "Through the Valleys", "All's Well" and "Watchman's Ease" in no particular order. Then there's Secret of Evermore. Everything in that soundtrack is so good that I'm not sure where to start!
