As I worked on this redux, I gazed intermittently on the bouquet of tulips on my desk, which I received for my birthday, yesterday. ^_^ I love tulips (which probably goes without saying at this point in my career) and I needed to express their beauty in the only ways I knew how- through art, literature and, of course, music.

Unlike crocuses, snowdrops and daffodils, tulips cannot truly be regarded as harbingers of spring. In most countries, they make their collective debut well into spring, rewarding gardeners everywhere with their prismatic radiance. They come in a myriad of colors and patterns, each uniquely artistic and beautiful, but I personally feel the greatest joy when I behold the pink, yellow, orange and red ones- especially when they're clustered together! As I breath in the scent of cut grass on a mid spring evening, when the fluffy Greek cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the forest leaves have come half way out, swathing everything in jade and emerald and the sunset is rosy peach, tulips, I find, complete the remainder of a warm, heavenly rainbow; I look forward to these rainbow moments every year. The scent, the gentle flame hues, the temperature of April and May evenings. It's all too perfect for words to describe.

Perhaps this waltz doesn't do it justice as, when I wrote it, I was focusing on the scent and flamboyance of tulips, on their spicy pollen and bold petals. I thought of Dutch and Spanish aristocracy and quirky gardeners- these things don't encapsulate the softness of the moment I described above! None-the-less, what this music does communicate fluently, is my fiery passion for spring, bright color and, of course, tulips!
